BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Set of three miniature amphorae; Phoenician culture, 400-200 BC.
Vitreous paste.
Measurements: 2 x 1 cm; 1.8 x 1 cm.
Set of three miniature amphorae. These small amphorae are small-scale replicas of Greek amphorae. Many of these perfume vessels had a funerary use as offerings in tombs or a playful use as toys for children.
The Phoenicians were an important naval power in antiquity, thanks to their sturdy vessels of strong wood and large size. These same vessels allowed them a trade of great importance both for them and for many cultures, providing them with techniques and materials from other areas outside their own in these exchanges.
