DESCRIPTION
Harpocrates: Egypt, Alexandrian period, I- II A.D.
Terracotta.
It presents losses of material in the crown.
Measurements: 12 x 4 x 8 cm.
Red terracotta statuette molded in hollow of Harpocrates with wide crown, squatting, presenting himself with vaporous clothes with the left hand resting on the ground and holding a vessel under his right arm.
Harpocrates is the representation of Horus as a child, and as such is depicted naked, wearing a crown and Ureus, but also with the prince's side ponytail. He was worshiped from the New Empire, and symbolizes the weak sun of dawn or winter sun, naked and unprotected. As this sun transforms into a powerful star, the weak child will become the adult Horus, armed and warrior, who will avenge the death of his father, Osiris. He was especially popular in the Late Epoch as a threatened child, but saved from all the stalks. As a conqueror of poisonous animals, he is considered important in the field of healing.
