DESCRIPTION
Auxiliary furniture; China, Qing dynasty, c. 1900.
Lacquered wood.
It shows wear in the polychrome.
Measurements: 80 x 57 x 50 cm.
This piece of auxiliary furniture, from China and dated around 1900, corresponds to the late period of the Qing dynasty. It is made of lacquered wood. The piece has a rectangular structure of balanced proportions, supported by four short legs of quadrangular section that are integrated into the lower frame, providing stability to the whole.
The front of the cabinet is organized in two differentiated bodies: an upper drawer of ample capacity and, underneath, a compartment closed by two folding doors. Both levels are finished with fittings in simple but elegant geometric shapes that contrast with the warmth of the dominant red lacquer.
The sides and back of the cabinet retain a darker tone, possibly the result of wear or an intentional application of black or brown lacquer, which creates a sober chromatic contrast.
