DESCRIPTION
Possibly Krishna; India, 19th century.
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 9,5 x 6 x 3,5 cm.
Sculpture of Krishna, main deity in Hinduism, considered an incarnation of Vishnu, the supreme god for the followers of Vaishnavism. He is associated with love, bliss and is depicted as a young man, often with bluish or black skin, tending sacred cows. His figure is central in texts such as the Bhagavad-gita and the Mahabharata.
The treatment of the bronze reveals meticulous and devotional workmanship, with a patina that evidences the passage of time and ritual use. More than a simple ornamental piece, this sculpture was conceived as an object of domestic worship, intended to encourage meditation and spiritual recollection.
