This impressive mask of Tibetan origin, made of embossed copper (martelé), is an exceptional example of Asian art, probably dated between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries AD. The piece represents a fierce and expressive face, with a demonic physiognomy characteristic of the protective iconographies in Tibetan and Buddhist art. Its gold finish gives it an imposing appearance, while the green patinated copper elements, arranged as flames or a fiery mane, reinforce its supernatural character. The mask has two braided horns and wild eyes with rings.
The dragon represents the changing power of nature, the Tao, as well as the concept of yang (masculine), and is related to the weather as the bringer of rain and water.
