"The room".

L'Esquella de la Torratxa was one of the most important and popular satirical and humorous magazines in Catalonia between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Founded in Barcelona in 1872, it was published weekly in Catalan and became a fundamental reference in the satirical, political and costumbrist press of the time. Some of the most outstanding artists and illustrators of modernist and noucentista Catalonia participated in it, among them Ramon Casas, Ricard Opisso, Joan Junceda, Apel-les Mestres, Isidre Nonell, Feliu Elias "Apa", Lluís Bagaría, Josep Costa "Picarol", Marià Foix, Manel Moliné and Tomàs Padró, all of them fundamental figures in the renewal of caricature, satirical illustration and the Catalan visual culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

A cartoonist and watercolorist who worked under the synonym of "Neula", Joan Llopart i Tresseres was a teacher at the School of Arts and Crafts of Poble Nou, as well as president of the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona. Renowned caricaturist, his style follows the school of French caricature, the latter characterized by macrocephalic characters drawn with sure and clean strokes. Throughout his career as a cartoonist, Llopart participated in important Catalan publications such as "La Honorata", "La Tramontana", "La Cotorra", "La Campana de la Unió", "La Papallona", "Lo Niu Guerrer", "La Campana de Gràcia", "La Campana de Gràcia", "La Gràcia's Bell" and "La Gràcia's Bell". La Campana de Gràcia" and the well-known "L'Esquella de la Torratxa" -a satirical weekly of anticlerical republican ideology- to whose publication the work presented here belongs.
