DESCRIPTION
Catalan school of the first quarter of the twentieth century.
"Male portrait", 1916.
Watercolor on paper.
Signed illegibly and dated in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 29 x 23,5 cm.
Bourgeois portrait very characteristic of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, defined by a sober elegance and a psychological dimension more important than the ostentatious luxury. The character appears seated, three-quarter length, looking directly at the viewer, in an intimate and refined composition. The loose and light brushstroke gives the sensation of a quick sketch, although executed with great technical security. The discreet elegance of the model is reminiscent of the portraits of Catalan high society painted by Ramón Casas.
