DESCRIPTION
Spanish school of the 20th century.
"Little bow tie".
In bronze.
Measurements: 4,5 x 4 x 2 cm.
This small bronze sculpture is part of the current of geometric abstraction developed in Spain during the second half of the twentieth century. The composition is constructed by means of angular planes and faceted surfaces that eliminate any descriptive reference to concentrate on the relationships between form, balance and volume. The work is organized around triangular and prismatic elements that generate a sense of dynamic tension, despite its reduced dimensions.
Its historical context is related to the consolidation of abstract languages in Spanish sculpture from the fifties and sixties. In contrast to the figurative tradition, many artists adopted an aesthetic based on formal simplification and research into geometric structures. Bronze, a classic material of Western sculpture, was reinterpreted from a modern sensibility that privileged spatial construction over representation.
The piece reflects the interest of the time in the international avant-garde, especially in constructivism, geometric abstraction and the currents that understood sculpture as an organization of planes and volumes in space. Rather than representing a recognizable figure, the work proposes a reflection on balance, form and the relationship between the different geometric masses, fundamental characteristics of Spanish abstract sculpture in the second half of the 20th century.
