"Abstraction.
Iron.
Signed: López Pozo.
Measurements: 28 x 25 x 18 cm.
This iron sculpture represents one of the most important trends in 20th century Spanish sculpture: the use of industrial materials to create abstract and open forms. Constructed using pieces of iron assembled and welded, the work gives the void the same importance as the material, generating a dynamic and balanced composition.
Its historical context is located in the artistic renewal of the 1950s to 1970s, when Spanish sculptors abandoned traditional models and adopted iron as a symbol of modernity. Influenced by the work of Julio González and post-war abstract sculpture, artists such as Eduardo Chillida and Jorge Oteiza explored the expressive possibilities of this material. The use of rusted iron also reflects the period's interest in matter, the imprint of time and the relationship between art, industry and space.
