Manolo Quejido is an artist and graphic designer who became known during the period known as the New Madrilenian Figuration. His beginnings in the mid-seventies were focused on the defense of pictorial figuration, although with the advance of time and the need for experimentation and creation, he also explored new artistic terrains being one of the pioneers in the use of computers for creative purposes in Spain, as well as the application of mathematical and sequential models in the Calculation Center investigating a geometric and technified work, ranging from Op Art to cybernetics. Subsequently, his evolution moved towards Pop Art and neo-expressionism, without forgetting his political and social commitment.
In the early eighties he became interested in the origins of 20th century painting, studying in depth the work of Matisse, Picasso and Cézanne, North American painting and some old masters, with an emphasis on Velázquez. It is at this time when his work is invaded by a palette of bright colors and carefree giving life to vibrant brushstrokes.
His works are part of public and private collections such as the National Library, the Basque Government, the "la Caixa" Foundation in Barcelona, the IVAM in Valencia, the Marugame Hirai Museum in Kagawa (Japan) or the MACBA in Barcelona.
