Around 1571, the French landowner Michel de Montaigne secluded himself in his castle, dedicating himself to the administration of his estate and to the writing of his well-known "Essays", where he transfers his concerns, contradictions, reflections, the essence of his life and thought. Salvador Dalí chose 21 of these essays, illustrating them with Indian ink drawings and watercolors.
