Outstanding painter and engraver, Agustín de Celis began painting in 1948. In Madrid he received his degree and doctorate in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense and later became a professor at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura. In 1960 he was awarded the Gran Premio de Roma by the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and later resided at the Academia de España until 1966. Between 1970 and 1972 he made film documentaries on art. He received the National Painting Award in 1971. In 1980 he made sketches for the Royal Tapestry Factory in Madrid thanks to a prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture. In 1992 he was invited by the Sapienza University of Rome to carry out a work on Painting and Architecture. He exhibited at the Fanzago Palace in Pescocostanzo, Italy, invited by the Assessorato a la Cultura in 1997. In 2000 he was appointed Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Villafamés (Castellón). In his origins he makes a figurative painting that evolves towards abstraction, taking later a certain expressionist and geometrizing look. In recent years he has returned to the theme of landscape and seascapes. He participates with his work in the International Biennials of Venice, Sao Paulo, Paris, Medellin, and in national and international exhibitions: Marcelino Botin Foundation (1986) and "Art of the 60's" (1990), Madrid Community Hall. A lover of his region, Cantabria, the titles and themes of many of his paintings, such as the one we now present, revolve around the sea and his land: "Bajamar", "Nordeste", "Marejada", "Mataleñas", "San Martín", etc. Agustín de Celis enjoys a good reputation both nationally and internationally, his works are in important museums and collections such as: Sianoja Collection. Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid, Museum of Contemporary Art of Seville, Museum of Contemporary Art of Toledo, Museum of Contemporary Art of Villafamés, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Elche, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santander.
