The series "Homage to Leonardo da Vinci" by Salvador Dalí, made around 1975, is a set of engravings and lithographs where the artist reinterpreted Leonardo's inventions and scientific imagination from a surrealist and visionary point of view. In these works appear machines, telephones, airplanes, automobiles, printing presses, light bulbs or fantastic mechanisms transformed into poetic and dreamlike images, mixing Renaissance technical precision with Dalí's characteristic theatricality. The series stands out for its delicate lines, transparent colors and aerial compositions, almost like a notebook of inventions, where Leonardo's genius is presented as a precursor of the modern world and also as a figure akin to Dalí himself: both understood as universal artists, scientists and inventors.
Internationally acclaimed after the retrospective that the MOMA in New York dedicated to him in 1941, Joan Miró has won awards such as the Grand Prizes of the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Foundation, the Carnegie Prize for Painting, the Gold Medals of the Generalitat de Catalunya and of Fine Arts, etc. His work can currently be seen at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, as well as in important museums around the world, such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the MOMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the National Gallery in Washington, the MNAM in Paris and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.
