DESCRIPTION
SALVADOR DALÍ I DOMÈNECH (Figueras, Girona, 1904 - 1989).
"The caprices of Goya".
Color lithograph, copy 95/200.
Signed and justified at the bottom.
Measurements: 44 x 31 cm; 47 x 33,5 cm (frame).
The series of Los Caprichos de Dalí is a surrealist reinterpretation that Salvador Dalí made in 1977 on the 80 original engravings of Goya: he kept the dark and satirical scenes of the Aragonese painter -full of witches, monsters, humanized donkeys and criticisms of society- but he added bright colors, watercolor spots, erotic symbols and oneiric figures typical of his surrealist universe, creating a visual dialogue between the rational nightmare of Goya and the delirious imaginary of Dalí.
Internationally acclaimed after the retrospective that the MOMA in New York dedicated to him in 1941, Joan Miró has won awards such as the Grand Prizes of the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Foundation, the Carnegie Prize for Painting, the Gold Medals of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Fine Arts, etc. His work can currently be seen at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, as well as in important museums around the world, such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the MOMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the National Gallery in Washington, the MNAM in Paris and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.
