Jean-Pierre Cassigneul is one of the most recognized contemporary French painters for his poetic representation of the feminine figure. Coming from a family closely linked to the world of fashion, he was the son and grandson of the founders of the haute couture house Jean Dessès, he grew up in an environment where Paris, sophistication and the cult of elegance were part of everyday life. This universe would deeply mark his artistic imagination.
Trained at the Académie Charpentier and later at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Cassigneul developed from a very young age a pictorial sensibility alien to the radical tendencies of modern art. After returning to Paris, he began a rapid professional career, becoming a member of the Société du Salon d'Automne. From then on, his exhibitions began to multiply in France, the United States and Japan, consolidating an international career. His compositions recreate timeless scenes populated by elegant women in settings such as the Bois de Boulogne, the beaches of Deauville or the shores of Lake Geneva. Beyond female portraits, his production includes still lifes, gardens, landscapes, sailboats and small domestic animals, elements that build an intimate, melancholic and deeply evocative universe.
Recognition came first from Japan, where the Izu Lake Ippeki Museum holds an important permanent collection of his work, and later from the United States and Europe. In 1987, the city of Paris dedicated a major exhibition to him at the Trianon de Bagatelle, confirming his relevance in contemporary French painting.
