"The disintegration of the persistence of memory" is a reinterpretation of his famous 1931 painting, The persistence of memory. In this version, the artist recovers the iconic soft watches that defined the surrealist imaginary of the 20th century, but transforms them under a new vision marked by quantum physics, the decomposition of matter and the cultural impact of the nuclear era.
The lithograph that reproduces this work retains the dreamlike and symbolic force of the original, allowing us to appreciate Dalí's extraordinary technical and conceptual ability. Unlike the 1931 composition, here the space appears fragmented and floating. The elements seem to disintegrate into small particles and suspended blocks, reflecting the artist's interest in the scientific discoveries of the mid-20th century and in the idea that reality was no longer solid and stable, but dynamic and molecular.
Dalí called this his period of "nuclear mysticism," in which he sought to unite science, spirituality and art. Influenced by the development of atomic physics after World War II, he reinterpreted his own surrealist symbols from a contemporary perspective, where time, memory and matter are in permanent transformation.
