DESCRIPTION

"Male portrait".
Oil on canvas.
Modern stretcher frame.
Measurements: 80 x 62 cm; 104 x 86 cm (frame).
Male portrait of French school of the eighteenth century, representing a gentleman or aristocrat. The personage, portrayed of half body, slightly turned in three quarters, directs the look to the spectator. He poses with haughty bearing and expression of serene confidence, typical features of the eighteenth-century noble portrait.
He wears a finely tailored blue velvet doublet, whose border is enhanced with silver thread trimmings, a detail that evidences his social position and refined taste. The cuffs adorned with white lace peek out delicately from under the sleeves. She keeps one hand discreetly inserted between the buttons of the sash, a recurring gesture in the portraits of the time, a symbol of composure and dignity.
The powdered and carefully arranged hair follows the courtly fashion of the period. The lighting highlights the qualities of the fabrics and the pallor of the face, underlining the restrained elegance and noble assurance of the model.
