Alfred Streubel was a German doctor, self-taught painter and a key figure in the cultural life of Chemnitz, his hometown. He was born in 1861 and developed all his professional life between medicine and art, becoming a general practitioner and obtaining the honorary title of Hofrat (court adviser).
Parallel to his medical work, he played a prominent role as a cultural promoter, being director of exhibitions of the artistic association Kunsthütte zu Chemnitz between 1908 and 1910. Under his management he promoted the inauguration of important exhibitions in the König-Albert-Museum, consolidating the artistic dynamism of the city.
As a completely self-taught painter, he was an active member of the Künstlergruppe Chemnitz, where he was recognized as a member and honorary member. His work focused mainly on landscape painting, with a special predilection for alpine views, high mountain scenes and seascapes or island landscapes, worked both in oil and watercolor.
Throughout his life he received several tributes, including solo exhibitions in 1936 and 1941. Today his work is preserved in institutions such as the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and continues to be present on the European auction market.
