DESCRIPTION

JOSEP COSTA VILA (Granollers, Barcelona, 1953).
"Paeo de Gracia".
Oil and collage on canvas.

Measurements: 78 x 35 cm.

Josep Costa Vila began his training in 1969, year in which he enters the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, in Barcelona. Later he continued his studies at the Massana School in the same city (1974), and in the workshop of the painter Isidre Vicenç (1977). In 1979 he made a study trip to Paris, and worked in Montmartre. In 1981 and 1985 he traveled to London and New York, respectively. Finally in 1992 he returned to Spain and established his residence in Girona, where he still lives today. Throughout his career, Costa Vila has held exhibitions in Spain, Andorra and the United States, in prominent galleries such as Sterling in Florida, Kreisler and Taüll in Barcelona and Arcadia in Madrid. He has also participated regularly, since 1995, in international fairs such as those of Seville, Feria de Arte and Almoneda in Madrid, Valencia, etc. Costa Vila has also taken part in numerous artistic competitions, being awarded first prizes in the competitions of Anglés (1983), Tossa de Mar (1984), Cassà de la Selva (1985), Sant Joan de les Abadesses (1985) and Cellera de Ter (1986). Costa Vila's work is mainly landscape, centered on urban atmospheres dominated by a toned and harmonious chromatism. He is a skilled painter in the composition and choice of urban spaces that best define the cities he paints, and always seeks the human element that contributes to the faithful interpretation of the spirit of each one of them. He is currently represented in various private collections, both national and foreign.
