MAGDA CASTELLS I ESTALELLA (Barcelona, 1950).
"Houses", 2006.
Mixed media on paper.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 35 × 43 cm.; 49 × 57 cm. with frame.
The work of Magda Castells is characterized by a luminous, vitalist and deeply Mediterranean sensibility. The color is imposed as a protagonist element, whether in urban landscapes, floral motifs, genre scenes or compositions of a more symbolic character.
In her works, reality appears transformed into a chromatic and emotional evocation: architectures, flowers, hearts, fruits or landscapes become signs of joy, memory and daily experience.
Magda Castells i Estalella started in art with her father, Joan Castells i Martí, a renowned Catalan engraver. At the age of fifteen she won the II International Christmas Prize, held in London, and since then she has participated in numerous competitions, receiving various awards, including the Special Prize for Young Painters of the newspaper El Correo Catalán and the Rodón Giró Prize.
He has exhibited in Spain and abroad, with presence in competitions and galleries in Barcelona, Miami, Frankfurt and other cities. His work is preserved in international collections, among them the Yoshida Collection in Japan, as well as in private collections in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Finland, Switzerland, Holland and Luxembourg.
