French table clock, nineteenth century period. The sculptural group in calamine and worked in round bulk represents a mother teaching her daughter to read. They wear simple but elegant dresses, skillfully draped. The lady is seated on the clock case and rests the open book on it. The clock face is black and the Roman numerals in gold stand out on it. The border of the dial, chiseled, is also gilded. The black marble base is raised on metal claw feet and the front is filleted in gold.
