Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin in Reïms was founded by Philippe Clicquot, in 1772, under the name of Clicquot. After fifteen years, the business passed into the hands of his son François, who married Barbe Nicole Ponsardin. In 1810 the company took the name of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin winery because after her husband died, Nicole Ponsardin took the reins of the business, becoming known, thanks to her impeccable work, the Grande Dame of Champagne.
