A painter of precocious talent, José Gómez Abad began his artistic training at the age of eleven, and later entered the School of Arts and Crafts of Almería, where years later he would occupy a teaching position. He began to paint professionally in Barcelona, where in the forties he regularly exhibited his work in galleries such as the Augusta or the Layetanas. Gómez Abad took part in the gatherings of the Indalian Movement in Alemria, and was one of the participants in the group's exhibition held at the National Museum of Modern Art in Madrid in 1947. A painter specializing in rural landscapes and still lifes, he was awarded the IV Jesús de Perceval Plastic Arts and Architecture Prize in 1991 by the Casa de Almería in Barcelona.
