DESCRIPTION
Deity; India, 19th century.
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 9 x 6 x 4 cm.
Small patinated bronze sculpture, made in India during the 19th century, representing a deity of the Hindu pantheon. The figure, of balanced proportions and serene attitude, is seated in meditation position on a stepped base, symbol of spiritual stability and connection with the sacred.
The divinity has four arms, a frequent attribute in the representations of Hindu gods, which alludes to their supernatural power and the multiplicity of their capacities. Each hand holds different ritual objects, possibly a scepter, a flower or a vase, elements loaded with symbolic meaning related to wisdom, fertility and protection.
The treatment of the bronze reveals meticulous and devotional work, with a patina that evidences the passage of time and ritual use. More than a simple ornamental piece, this sculpture was conceived as an object of domestic worship, intended to promote meditation and spiritual meditation.
