DESCRIPTION
ALFRED ARRIBAS (Barcelona, 1954).
Prototype chair, 80's.
Metal and wicker.
Measurements: 90 x 45 x 49 cm.
Exceptional prototype chair designed by Alfredo Arribas in the 80's, a piece that embodies the experimental spirit of Spanish postmodern design. The structure and legs, made of metal, trace a firm base and precise lines that contrasts with the organic warmth of the wicker. The seat and backrest - conceived as a single continuous piece - are developed in this natural material, generating a fluid transition that provides visual lightness and a remarkable formal coherence.
This duality between industry and craftsmanship, between geometry and living matter, places the piece in a hybrid territory characteristic of postmodern thought, where the object transcends its function to become an exercise in language and experimentation.
As a prototype, it is an unusual work on the market, a direct testimony of the author's creative process and of a key period in the evolution of contemporary design.
Alfredo Arribas is an architect and designer. He studied at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona. He taught at the same school and at the Elisava School of Design from 1979 to 1990. In 1986, together with Miguel Morte, he founded the firm Alfredo Arribas Asociados, dedicated to architecture and interior design. In his projects he has collaborated with designers such as Javier Mariscal and Eduard Samsó, among others. He was president of ARQ-INFAD (1982-1983) and vice-president of Fomento de las Artes y el Diseño (1986-1989), whose medal he was awarded in 1990. His work has been published in numerous architecture and design magazines and has been awarded several FAD prizes. His works include the Velvet Bar in Barcelona and the Nagasaki Aquarium (Japan). Among his most representative designs are the Greystoke (1990) and Pila (1995) armchairs.
