DESCRIPTION
JOAN ANTONI TOLEDO (Valencia, 1940 - 1995).
Untitled, 1986.
Set of three ballpoint pens on paper.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 30 x 21 cm (each).
Founding member of Estampa Popular and of the group Equipo Crónica together with Rafael Solbes and Manolo Valdés, which he left in 1968 after questioning the role of collective work as opposed to individual accomplishment. He was considered one of the most important exponents of the social realism of the 1960s and 1970s.
Toledo pursued an important artistic career as a solo artist, in which he maintained the spirit of his beginnings in which images were distorted to create a cultural chronicle. He gave rise to a more personal and relaxed style of painting, through which he showed his versatility and his way of adapting the language of Pop Art to the reality of the time.
For Toledo, the seventies and early eighties would be the years of a production centred on creations on paper, which was a fundamental source of information that made his artistic legacy known. Drawings, sketches and ideas on paper were his main means of communication and experimentation.
Part of his work is housed at the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno and the Museo de Arte Reina Sofía.
