Josep Armengol i Ballbé was a Catalan sculptor of very short life but with remarkable talent. Since he was a child he showed artistic vocation, creating clay figures, and later he trained with artists such as Josep Llimona and Francesc Galí. His career developed mainly in the field of figurative sculpture, with works in terracotta and bronze, influenced by modernist currents and French sculptors. He participated in exhibitions from a young age and received a scholarship to study in Paris, which boosted his artistic projection. However, a serious illness affected his health from adolescence and limited his development, causing his premature death at the age of 26-27. In short, he was a promising sculptor within the Catalan art of the early twentieth century, whose career was cut short too soon.
