Robert Arthur Morton Stern, usually known as Robert A. M. Stern, is an American architect, university professor and academic writer based in New York and New Haven. He previously served as dean of the Yale School of Architecture. He also runs his own architectural practice, Robert A. M. Stern Architects, sometimes referred to as RAMSA. Stern is a representative of the New Urbanism and New Classical Architecture movements, paying particular attention to urban context and the continuity of traditions. He was one of the first architects to use the term "postmodernism," but more recently has used the term modern traditionalist to describe his work. In 2011, Stern was awarded the prestigious Driehaus Prize for his achievements in contemporary classical architecture. Some of his most important works include the New Classical 15 Central Park West and 20 East End Avenue in New York and the Comcast Center in Philadelphia.
