Great Indian ceremonial cow head, made of carved wood and richly polychromed. The piece presents a frontal treatment of great visual force, with long raised horns, almond-shaped eyes and a meticulous decoration in red, white, green, black and golden tones, organized by means of floral, geometric and linear motifs.
The cow occupies a central place in the religious culture of India, associated with fertility, abundance, protection and sacredness. In this piece, the ornamental richness and monumental scale suggest a ceremonial or processional function, conceived to be contemplated in a ritual and festive context, rather than as a simple decorative element.
The polychrome work, of great vividness, turns the surface into a true ornamental field, where each line reinforces the expressiveness of the animal and its sacred character. The combination of sculptural volume, color and symbolic presence gives the piece a remarkable scenic power.
