Ceiling lamp made of Murano glass and dated in the twentieth century. As is traditional in this Italian center, the soda glass has been blown by hand (partly molded and partly in the air) to obtain stylized shapes, classic roots, light and balanced. The lamp consists of a typically classicist central shaft, composed of the superposition of different turned bodies (balusters and spindles), separated by lentils of different thicknesses and diameters, creating a dynamic vertical structure without breaking the proportion. This shaft starts from a hemispherical base with a leaf-shaped lower finial. From this base also emerge the light arms, five in total, with a fluted body to match the shaft, which takes the form of a stylized cornucopia following the classic traditional structure of this type of pieces (central axis and arms in the form of cornucopia or tornapunta). Each of these arms is topped by a translucent glass saucer, whose profile ends in green colored glass. The glass has been cut creating plant forms and floral motifs, which are arranged along the entire length of the lamp, creating a fluid and dynamic composition.
Murano's reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian republic, fearing fire and the destruction of wooden buildings in the city, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. Murano glassmakers held a monopoly on the quality of glassmaking for centuries, developing or refining the handling of glass in order to create exceptional works such as this chandelier.
