DESCRIPTION
Art Nouveau vase DAUM NANCY. France, ca. 1900.
Cameo glass.
Signed.
Measurements: 15 x 15 x 20 cm.
Art Nouveau vase made by Daum Nancy in cameo glass, with globular profile body, double applied handle and circular base. The piece presents a vegetal decoration of great ornamental richness, with leaves and flowers worked in relief on a background of amber tone, generating a refined chromatic and luminous contrast.
The design fully responds to the naturalistic language of French modernism, where flora becomes a structural and decorative motif. The dark masses of the vegetation, combined with the reddish tones of the flower, bring visual depth and a marked pictorial sense to the surface of the glass.
The Daum house, founded in Nancy in 1878 by Jean Daum, is one of the most important manufactures in the history of French art glass. Along with Gallé, was one of the great firms of Art Nouveau glass. His pieces stand out for technical experimentation, the use of multilayer glass and decoration inspired by nature, becoming fundamental references of the École de Nancy.
