The relationship between the painter and the model is a theme that in the avant-garde of the twentieth century is reconsidered, losing the woman the traditional function of placid odalisque. Sensitive painters tend to enter into the psychology of their model, as in this drawing, where shyness and melancholy replace the languor of yesteryear. The synthetic style that chisels the bodies like wood carvings is inscribed in a post-cubist language, influenced by Art Deco.
