The preeminence of the face, which almost completely dominates the compositional space; the intensity of the gaze and the expressiveness of the gesture, marked by a restrained haughtiness; as well as a rigorous chromatic sobriety and technical virtuosity were characteristics that defined Ducker's work. In this particular case we see how the artist has followed these stylistic precepts to compose this portrait.
Of probable Dutch origin, Guillermo Ducker developed his activity in Spain from approximately 1795, date in which his first works are documented in the peninsula. His production is characterized by a refined technique, a drawing of great precision and a balanced chromatic palette, qualities that earned him the recognition of his contemporaries. Figures such as Leandro Fernández de Moratín publicly praised him, considering him one of the most outstanding figures in the field of miniatures in the Madrid of his time. His clientele included some of the highest echelons of Spanish society, among them the Royal House and the House of Osuna. For the latter, he made at least two portraits of the Duchess, while, commissioned by Queen María Luisa, he made copies of original portraits by Francisco de Goya, as well as depictions of the King of Etruria and the infants Francisco and María Isabel.
