DESCRIPTION

FRÉDÉRIC LIGER (France, 20th century).
Brutalist mirror, ca. 1960-1970.
Cast iron and aluminum.
Signed.
Measurements: 113 x 8 cm.

Brutalist mirror made of cast iron and aluminum, with a circular composition of strong sculptural presence. The frame presents a textured and organic surface, formed by repetitive modules of almost architectural character that generate a dynamic play of reliefs, shadows and reflections. The radial arrangement of small metallic discs accentuates its visual effect and adds depth to the piece, evoking the expressive and material aesthetics of the brutalist design of the 1960s and 1970s. A decorative object of great formal strength, conceived more as a wall sculpture than as a conventional mirror.

It is a unique piece of great aesthetic charge that clearly embodies the principles of the brutalist style, where matter, texture and formal expressiveness acquire a leading role. Its sculptural composition, marked by repetitive reliefs and an almost mineral-like surface, generates a powerful play of light and shadow that accentuates its mural presence. Beyond its utilitarian function, the mirror is conceived as an artistic object with a strong architectural character, representative of the experimental and material sensibility of the design of the 1960s and 1970s.
