DESCRIPTION
Italian school of the 17th century.
"Bust of Venus de Medici".
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 72 x 43 x 26 cm.
The original Venus de Medici is attributed to a sculptor heir to the teaching of Praxiteles. The typology of the Venus púdica or puditicia came from a long tradition and represented Aphrodite just out of the bath. The beautiful young woman covers her pubis and bust as if she had been surprised at the moment of emerging from the sea, adopting a graceful gesture. The copy we present here is from the neoclassical school, a period in which Ancient Greece was taken as an ideal in all the arts, and whose glory and sublimity was attempted to be recovered.
