DESCRIPTION

Following ALBERTO GIACOMETTI's models; 1950s.
"Walker".
Bronze.
Measurements: 110 x 15 cm.

The work is part of the sculptural language developed by Alberto Giacometti in the 1950s, characterized by elongated, thin and eroded human figures, which seem suspended between presence and disappearance. The body of the Walker is reduced to the essential: a fragile, almost filamentous vertical axis that emphasizes the loneliness and vulnerability of the human being.
The rough and irregular surface of the bronze retains the imprint of modeling, reinforcing the idea of a figure constantly unfinished or in the process of wearing out. This texture contributes to a sense of existential precariousness, one of the central themes of Giacometti's artistic thought, closely linked to post-war existentialism.
The posture of the walker, slightly bent, with one leg forward, suggests movement, but a slow, almost arrested movement, which does not imply progress but persistence. The gesture is not heroic: it is a silent, solitary advance, charged with inner tension.
