DESCRIPTION
Pair of corner pieces of Carlos III period, 1759-1788.
Carved wood, polychrome and marble.
Measurements: 83 x 51 cm (x2).
Pair of triangular structure corner pieces with three legs, designed to fit elegantly to the corners. The white marble top with soft veins, while the wooden body is richly carved and decorated with a polychrome imitating marble veined in greenish tones, a technique characteristic of the baroque-rococo taste.
The decoration is concentrated on the skirt and legs: on the skirt there are water-gilded vegetal motifs, with large acanthus leaves that emerge from central rockeries and expand elegantly towards the sides. These dynamic, curved and symmetrical forms are typical of rococo, but their restrained composition and formal balance already herald the transition towards incipient neoclassicism.
The cabriole legs, stylized and ending in small curved feet, are also decorated with gilded elements that integrate harmoniously with the whole.
