Trained in Barcelona, Paris, Madrid and Italy, Arranz made his individual debut at the Club Universitario in Barcelona in 1961. In 1967 he abandoned the lyricism of his early period and moved towards the New Figuration. In the 1970s he formed an artistic partnership with Rafael Lozano Bartolozzi, with whom he worked for more than a decade on artistic projects that would mark the history of Spanish contemporary art. He has exhibited all over the world, and his awards include the Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the Ibiza International Biennial (1964), the Prize at the II Biennial of Sport (1964), the Figure Prize at the Estrada Saladich Biennial (1967) and the Ynglada Guillot Drawing Prize (1968). His work can be found in the MoMA in New York, the Museum of São Paulo, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid and the Fine Arts Museums of Vitoria and Seville.
Bartolozzi joined forces with Eduardo Arranz, Gerard Sala and Robert Llimós in the 1960s, and until 1982 he continued to work with Arranz, both of whom introduced the "happening" to Catalonia. In 1980 he took part in the Venice Biennale. In 2007 the Bartolozzi Foundation was created in Vespella de Gaià, with the aim of collecting and disseminating his work, as well as promoting the work of new artists. He is also represented at the MACBA in Barcelona, the Camón Aznar Museum in Zaragoza, the Contemporary Art Museums in Seville and Las Palmas and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Navarre, among others.
