The work Índice de peligrosidad is part of the series Modelos estocásticos, a corpus of visual explorations that thematizes the representation of information and its impact on the collective perception of risk, violence and conflict. The piece consists of an intervened map of the world, in which the traditional geographical proportions have been radically altered. The continental masses are redistributed and resized according to an implicit criterion of danger: a statistical index not specified but suggested in the title as a determinant variable of territorial magnitude.
In the composition, countries that in conventional cartography would occupy a relatively smaller area. Conversely, other regions traditionally dominant in geopolitical terms, notably Western Europe and part of North America, are minimized or excluded from the frame. This distortion is articulated against a sky-blue monochrome background, which operates as a neutral and delocalized space, accentuating the sense of abstraction and arbitrariness in the construction of the image.
