Prolific Renaissance artist, Antonio Rossellino belonged to the same generation as Mino da Fiesole and Desiderio de Settignano. It is probable that he completed his apprenticeship with Donatello. Among his most notable works are: the funerary monument of Blessed Marcolino (1458) in the church of the black monks of Forli; the tomb of Cardinal Jacopo of Portugal in San Miniato al Monte, Florence (1461-1467), The bust portrait of Matteo Palmieri (Museo del Bargello) is dated and signed in 1468. Together with Mino da Fiesole he worked on the reliefs of the Assumption of the Virgin and the Martyrdom of St. Stephen in the pulpit of the Cathedral of Prato. A bust of the Infant Baptist (Pinacoteca of Faenza) and a Child Jesus (Louvre Museum) are attributed to him by some experts. His style is purely Renaissance, with a virtuoso treatment of the figures, with graceful postures and elegant smiles.
