The painting represents the Virgin Mary in a deeply devotional and recollected composition, characterized by the aesthetic and spiritual ideal typical of the religious art of the second half of the XVIII century in Spain. The figure appears half bust, centered in the pictorial plane, with her head slightly tilted to her left and her gaze raised to heaven, a gesture that reinforces her mystical and spiritual connection with the divine.
The Virgin's face conveys a serene and melancholic expression, accentuated by the subtlety of her features: arched eyebrows, half-open lips and rosy cheeks that delicately contrast with the dark background. Her hands, crossed on her chest in a gesture of recollection and humility, reaffirm the image of submission and pious contemplation, typical of the iconographic model of the Sorrowful Virgin or Virgin of Solitude.
She wears a reddish tunic and a dark blue mantle with greenish reflections, whose folds are treated with remarkable attention to chiaroscuro, following a late Baroque aesthetic that still persisted in the religious painting of the 18th century in the Iberian Peninsula. The head is covered with a white veil that is insinuated under the mantle, reinforcing her modesty and virginal purity.
The background is of earthy tone and lacks narrative details, which focuses the attention completely on the figure. A blurred golden halo around her head stands out, a symbol of her sanctity, although resolved in a sober manner, without resorting to ornaments or complex haloes.
