This oil on canvas, shows two women chatting next to a boat. Behind the boat you can appreciate the presence of the sea under a powerful yellowish light. Hector Chalmers was a Scottish painter who studied at the Trustees Academy in Edinburgh, the Royal Scottish Academician and the Art School on the Mount. Chalmers' early works consist mainly of oil figures. Later in his career, in addition to portraits, he painted pastoral landscapes, both in oil and watercolor. His works were widely exhibited in many prestigious galleries, including 176 works at the Royal Scottish Academy.
