The painting presents the body of a nude young woman reclining on a bed of grass, partially wrapped in a white cloth that covers her left leg and extends in soft folds to the foreground. The figure stands with her back to the viewer, in a semi-supine pose on her elbows that gently arches her back and enhances the curve of her hip. The face, turned to the right, gazes with a serene and slightly dreamy expression towards a point in the landscape, where two doves perched on a branch seem to correspond to her contemplation.
The natural environment, treated with restrained detail, frames the figure without detracting from its prominence. The trees and vegetation form a sort of canopy that envelops the young woman, creating an intimate and almost dreamlike atmosphere. The contrast between the ivory tones of the body and the dark greens of the forest guides the eye towards the center of interest, which is the female anatomy.
This type of painting responds to the romantic and neoclassical taste for the idealized nude, a direct heir of the French academic tradition. The work is not merely an anatomical study, but an aesthetic construction that seeks harmony, controlled sensuality and a dialogue between the human and the natural. The inclusion of elements such as flowers and doves reinforces the allegorical character of the scene, linking it to the iconography of the nymph or the pastoral Venus, so frequent in 19th century European art.
