"Still life with shells", 1926.
Oil on canvas.
It presents damages in the pictorial surface.

Measurements: 65 x 80 cm.
Charles Dehoy, outstanding figure of the Belgian painting linked to the fauvist and expressionist languages, developed a work in which the chromatic experimentation and the formal simplification occupied a central place. Although his production encompassed various genres, the still life was for him a privileged field of plastic exploration, where he was able to freely investigate the relationships between color, matter and composition.
In the work described, Dehoy depicts several seashells arranged on a dark surface, accompanied by a small chest or box that introduces a green accent in the composition. The subject, apparently simple and heir to the classic tradition of still life.
