DESCRIPTION

FRIEDRICH SCHÜTZ (1874 - 1954).
"Dusseldorf".
Oil on cardboard.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 76 x 100 cm.
The composition presents a fluvial port densely populated with boats, masts and industrial structures, where the city of Düsseldorf is suggested in the background by a barely defined architecture, almost dissolved in the vibration of the color. This resource emphasizes not the topographical precision, but the visual and emotional impression of the environment. The brushstroke is loose, fragmented and sometimes pasty, which contributes to a dynamic pictorial surface, charged with matter and energy.
The theme of the port also introduces a modern dimension linked to work, industry and circulation, elements that replace the traditional natural landscape with a humanized landscape in constant transformation. However, far from adopting a purely documentary gaze, Schütz constructs a subjective vision in which the movement of the water, the instability of the boats and the density of the air seem to merge into a single sensory experience.
