DESCRIPTION

OLEGUER JUNYENT SANS (Barcelona, 1876 - 1956).
"Landscape. Esplugues, 1938
Oil on canvas
Signed in the lower right corner.
Located and dated on the back.
Measurements: 47 × 62 cm, 66 × 80.5 cm (frame).

A luminous vision of the urban and rural landscape unfolds in this scene of Esplugues, where Oleguer Junyent articulates the composition from the bridge in the foreground, which acts as structural axis and conductor of the look towards the farmhouse and the distance. The treatment of color reveals a sensibility close to post-impressionism, with loose brushstrokes that synthesize forms and capture the atmosphere.

A painter and set designer, Oleguer Junyent trained between Barcelona and Paris, and at the age of fifteen he began to collaborate as a set designer with the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona, for which he would create sets such as Wagner's "Twilight of the Gods", Charpentier's "Louise" and Falla's "La vida breve". He also published drawings in "L'Esquella de la Torratxa". In these years he visited Paris, where he had Cartezat as a teacher. In 1923 he collaborated in the organization of the Furniture and Decoration Exhibition in Barcelona, and also took part in the International Exhibition of 1929. He was also president of the Artistic Circle of Barcelona (1925). During these years he moved away from the theater and devoted himself to decorative and easel painting, and in 1930 he won the competition "Barcelona seen by its artists". He is currently represented in the MACBA and the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, among others, as well as in various private collections.
