Painter, engraver and teacher, born in Hull, he moved to Liverpool in 1895, where he studied at the School of Art and became professor of art at Liverpool College. He was a member of the Liverpool Academy and president of the RCamA, and also exhibited at the RA, the RSA, the Fine Art Society and other venues in the province. The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, the Salford Art Gallery and the Manchester City Art Gallery all hold works by him. His full name was George Grainger Smith and he lived in Malpas, Cheshire, retiring to Wales.
