Formed in the School of La Lonja and Sant Jordi, both in Barcelona, Planas Gallés has combined the pictorial creation with his dedication to the teaching in the School of Arts and Trades of Barcelona first and, later, in that of La Lonja. He exhibited for the first time individually in 1952, at the Argos Gallery, and later in other galleries in Barcelona. He has also shown his work in Argentina, Venezuela and England. After a first stage dedicated to landscape, still life and the figure, Planas evolved towards a figuration of expressionist tendency. Initially, his style is inscribed within the post-impressionism of academic roots, but Planas will gradually evolve in an increasingly expressionist line, without losing the links with the visual reality. Among his numerous awards are the Sant Jordi Drawing Prize of the Diputació de Barcelona, the City of Mataró and the Royal Artistic Circle. In 1985 he took part in the I Biennial of Art of the F.C. Barcelona. He is represented at the MACBA.
