Morató Aragónés always showed his interest in urban landscapes and environmental scenes, resolved with a modern treatment of color and pictorial matter. The artist manages to capture the essence of the place rather than its literal description, evoking the vitality and cosmopolitan character of the French capital through a dynamic composition and an expressive brushstroke.

José María Morató studied at the Sant Jordi School. He was awarded the Medal Tapiró of the Diputación de Tarragona in 1944, the Painting Prize at the Exhibition of Contemporary Religious Art in 1952, the Drawing Prize Viscount Güell mid-century, the Medal Vilaltella de Lleida in 1963, the Gold Medal of the Villa Palamos in 1971, etc..

His work is kept, apart from numerous private collections, by the Fundació Vila Casas, the Jardín de Escultura del Pueblo Español de Barcelona, the Fundación de Arte Contemporáneo Fran Daurel de Barcelona, and others.
