Urban-industrial landscape located on the banks of a river or estuary, in which the presence of port infrastructures, boats and factory chimneys defines the character of the scene. The composition is structured around a large area of water that occupies the center of the canvas and acts as a transitional space between the foreground, dominated by the dark silhouettes of small boats and docks, and the background, where an urban profile rises, marked by industrial buildings and tall chimneys that expel dense columns of smoke. A horizontal bridge crosses the scene and visually connects both shores, functioning as a compositional axis that organizes the depth of the landscape.
From the stylistic point of view, the painting reveals a clear affinity with the British landscape tradition developed between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, especially with those currents interested in the representation of industrial and port landscapes linked to urban modernization. The brushstroke is loose, dynamic and gestural, which gives the work a marked atmospheric quality. The artist seems to privilege the capture of light and climatic conditions over the precise definition of forms, resorting to glazes and superimpositions of color that partially dilute the architectural contours and generate a sensation of fog or ambient humidity.
